The Working Group Number 16. Panel 1: Gracie begins a monologue: “They say this hospital’s gone to the dogs.” Panel 2: Gracie’s monologue continues, “But sometimes that’s exactly what a hospital needs. The hospital trainees are assembled in front of Dr. Pupper (McDrooly). Dr. Pupper says, “Trainees, I have three rules:” Panel 3: Dr. Pupper continues, “No biting, no barking, no butt stuff. Now go to your patients.” Panel 4: Dr. Pupper looks at Gracie and says, “Gracie, we need to talk.” Panel 5: Gracie says to Dr. Pupper, “Don’t bother, Pupper. I know you’re the one who’s blocking my clinical cuddles trial…”
Panel 6: Murphy is sleeping on his patient’s lap. Margo is sitting on her patient’s lap. Lindy is leaning her front paws on someone’s leg that is in a cast. Margo says, “This is precise and technical work, stray.” Panel 7: Margo nuzzles her patient’s cheek and continues, “See how I perfectly time my nuzzles? You’re doing a terrible job.” Panel 8: Lindy sits on the person’s leg cast and says, “I’m doing a great job!” Panel 9: Lindy suddenly notices, “Oh my claws. Is that…?” Panel 10: A cheese arepa on a nearby overbed table. Panel 11: Lindy leaps towards the table and scrambles to get on top of it while saying, “Cheese!” Panel 12: Lindy pulls at the cheese while precariously perched on the table. Panel 13: Gracie’s monologue continues, “Because when life throws you a curveball…” Dr. Pupper yells, “We’ve got a code blue!”
Panel 14: Gracie’s monologue concludes, “It takes a damn good dog to catch it.” A patient who is upset and sad and crying has been wheeled into the room. Dr. Pupper stands nearby and yells, “I need 10 wet kisses and 12 pounds of snuggles here stat!” Panel 15: Lindy has lost control of the table and goes whizzing by everybody while barking. Margo says, “I’m on it!” But Dr. Pupper says, “Stay with your patient Margo!” Gracie approaches the sad patient and says, “Listen: I love you—“ Panel 16: Gracie continues, “in a really really big, pretend to herd your kids, let you cry into my fur, destroy all your furniture way that gives me zoomies — love you.” Panel 17: Close-up of Gracie saying, “So pick me up. Choose me. Love me.”
Panel 18: Gracie kisses the patient’s face, and the patient is happy. Panel 19: Gracie’s patient asks, “Can Gracie stay with me during the C.T. scan?” Panel 20: The runaway table crashes and Lindy goes flying in the air while letting out a “Yawp!” Dr. Pupper yells, “Gracie’s stray! What was my second rule?!” Panel 21: Margo’s patient is playing with a tablet and Margo says, “I demand a more interesting patient!” Panel 22: Lindy lying on the floor says, “I didn’t do any butt stuff!” Panel 23: Dr. Pupper looks down and says, “I never want to see you in my O.R. again.” Panel 24: Dr. Pupper’s wife says, “Gracie, I’m pregnant.” Panel 25: Someone bursts into the room and all the dogs’ ears perk up when they yell, “A truck full of dog treats just overturned in front of the hospital!”
