The Working Group No. 17. Panel 1: Lindy, Margo, Gracie, Murphy, Belle, and Ajax all sit on empty gurneys in a back hallway in the hospital. There are piles of treats in front of them. Murphy says, “Okay take a treat if… you have no idea what you’re doing.” Panel 2: Close-up of paws holding half-eaten treats. Panel 3: Gracie’s narration says, “At the end of the day, the reality of this work is nothing like what we dreamed of as puppies.” Panel 4: Gracie’s narration continues, “I can think of a thousand reasons to quit.” Panel 5: Margo eagerly says, “It’s my turn next!”
Panel 6: Margo looks slyly at Lindy and says, “Take a treat if…” Panel 7: She finishes with a mean smirk, “You didn’t get kicked out of McDrooly’s OR today.” Panel 8: Lindy looks sad as Margo chomps on a treat. Panel 9: Lindy asks sadly, “Did I really mess up my career?” Panel 10: Gracie reassures Lindy, “Don’t worry about it Lindy. We’ve all committed medical malpractice at one point. It’s like a rite of passage.” Panel 11: Gracie’s narration says, “But here’s the thing…”
Panel 12: Gracie’s narration continues, “It’s more than just a job. We got into medicine to save lives… not for a salary.” Lindy interrupts with, “Wait—you’re not getting paid?” Panel 13: Murphy says, “No…” And Gracie adds, “This is volunteer work.” Panel 14: Lindy leaps off the gurney towards the exit and yells, “Balto’s balls! I need money!” Panel 15: Lindy sits at a bus stop and is looking at a guide dog standing next to her. Panel 16: Lindy asks the guide dog, “Excuse me, do you get paid?”
Panel 17: The guide dog walks away with their human companion while saying, “Ew, desperate much? Go back to the shelter.” Panel 18: Lindy says, “I’ll take that as a no!” Panel 19: Someone approaches Lindy and says, “Hey kid.” Panel 20 through 23: Close-ups of a sports car with a license plate that says “Papi” and a door that slowly opens vertically. Panel 24: Papi sits in a little child-sized sports car and asks, “Need a lift?”
