The Jane Gang Meets Anna Brackett, a Dickinson fan comic. Panel 1: Toshiaki (as portrayed by Kevin Lee), Jane Humphrey (as portrayed by Gus Birney), Abiah Root (as portrayed by Allegra Heart), Abby Wood (as portrayed by Sophie Zucker), and Anna Callender Brackett stand grouped together at an evening gathering with vague outlines of a crowd of people behind them. Jane is still in mourning clothes, so this comic takes place sometime around Season 2 and before Season 3 of Dickinson. Jane is saying, “So, Anna, where did you say you traveled from?” And Anna replies, “Framingham. I’m a teacher there.” Panel 2: Close-up on Jane’s horrified reaction: “Oh my God that sounds awful!” Panel 3: Abby dips into frame next to Jane to say: “Nice burn on Framingham Jane”
Panel 4: Close-up on Anna’s angry face saying, “I’ll tell you what’s awful: the American education system!” Panel 5: Toshiaki asks, “What do you mean?” Panel 6: Anna explains, “Schools are so desperate for teachers that they’re giving classrooms to 16-year-olds!” Panel 7: Close-up of Anna’s anger with raised hands in exasperation as she says: “Children teaching children?? It’s absurd!”
Panel 8: Wide shot of Anna mid-rant being cut off by Emily Dickinson (as portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld) who approaches saying, “Sorry - have any of you seen Sue?” Panel 9: Toshiaki, Jane, Abiah, and Abby look at Emily with bored, annoyed expressions and they all say “No” Panel 10: Anna glances askance at Emily’s retreating back with annoyance and continues, “Anyway” Panel 11: Anna, with hand on heart, says, “If I were in charge I would make teaching a highly respected career”
Panel 12: Jane says, “Honestly I actually really miss school.” Abiah and Abby agree immediately with “Same” and “Yeah” Panel 13: Jane in an oval portrait frame continues, “I mean I didn’t learn anything but the vibes were amazing - the cliques, the rivalries, the poisonings… Panel 14: Abiah comforts Jane with a hand on her upper arm, “It was a more innocent time” Abby nods, “mm hmm”
Panel 15: Anna with raised eyebrows says, “I don’t think that kind of environment is healthy for children - marks and exams seem to make everyone miserable” Panel 16: Toshiaki smirks, “Of course your students are miserable, you’re teaching in Framingham” Panel 17: Abby pops into frame with Toshiaki to say, “Framingham is gonna need medical attention for that epic burn Toshiaki!” Panel 18: A wide shot showing that the group is interrupted again, this time by Sue Gilbert (as portrayed by Ella Hunt). She pushes out of a crowd of people waving her hand and calling, “Miss Brackett!”
Panel 19: Sue holds both of Anna’s hands in hers (Anna smiles and says “Hello Sue) and Sue gushes, “Oh I’m so glad you could join us this evening” Panel 20: Close-up of Sue and Anna. Anna looks annoyed now as Sue continues, “How are you finding Amherst? You must be absolutely overwhelmed coming from a quaint little town like Framingham!” Panel 21: Abby looks thrilled and says, “Ooh a subtle burn from Sue” but Jane cuts her off and shushes her “Abby shh”
Panel 22: Sue hooks her arm around Anna’s and leans in and says, “Tell them that thing you said about sleep” Panel 23: Sue looks smug as Anna explains, “Oh I was just saying that every schoolgirl under 18 should have nine hours of sleep.” Panel 24: Close-up of Sue and Anna as Sue exclaims, “Isn’t she amazing?? I think Miss Brackett is probably the most solid-minded teacher this country has.” Panel 25: Close-up of Sue looking away from the group as she says, “Anyway please excuse me, I must find Emily. Have any of you seen her?” Panel 26: Toshiaki, Jane, Abiah, and Abby look at Sue with bored, annoyed expressions and they all say “No”
Panel 27: Sue exits to the right of the panel from the group. Sue says to Anna, “Where do you think you’ll settle after teaching?” Panel 28: Anna looks confused and asks, “After teaching?” Panel 29: Jane replies, “Well yeah, every teacher I know quits to get married” Panel 30: Abby with a big smile says, “There are a ton of eligible hotties in Amherst, unlike Framingham…” Panel 31: Close-up of Abby pumping her fist and saying, “Nice one, Abby”
Panel 32: Anna smiles and waves her hand saying, “Oh I’m not looking for a husband. I’m in a pretty serious courtship with Ida.” Panel 33: Toshiaki, Jane, Abiah, and Abby stand in a group with raised eyebrows and surprised expressions. The words “shocked silence” are in the empty space next to them in cursive handwriting. Panel 34: Close-up of Ida Eliot with two glasses of champagne in her hands. She says, “Hello darling, this champagne is wonderful” Panel 35: Ida kisses Anna on the cheek, and Anna says, “This is Ida Eliot. She’s a teacher and an entomologist.” Panel 36: Toshiaki looks perturbed and says, “She studies bugs??”
Panel 37: Anna and Ida look at each other with smiles and hold hands as Anna explains, “Our plan is to eventually open our own school and then start a family, adopt a couple of kids together” Panel 38: Close-up of Abby looking surprised, “Wait – you can do that in the 19th century?” Panel 39: Close-up of Anna glancing at Abby with a smug expression as she smiles and drinks her champagne. She replies, “What, like it’s hard?”
Panel 40: Close-up of Anna looking away from the group to her left while drinking her champagne. Panel 41: Close-up of Anna lowering her glass and turning her head towards something with a furrowed brow. She asks, “Hey what’s going on over there what’s their deal?” Panel 42: Wide shot of the back of Anna and Toshiaki’s heads looking away towards a doorway, through which we can see Emily and Sue standing closely together with foreheads touching. A weird ghostly light is emanating from behind their heads. Panel 43: A bright light flares between Emily and Sue’s heads with weird sparkles and a darkness surrounding them and the space around them (the walls, paintings, etc.) are warping and bending towards them. Anna looks to Toshiaki, who rolls his eyes and raises a dismissive hand saying, “I can’t even talk about that”
